A town in Esashi County in northern Hokkaido. Facing the Sea of Okhotsk, the mouth of the Tonbetsu River is a natural inland harbor where hairy crabs, salmon, trout, and other fish are landed. Scallops are also farmed. Dairy farming is popular in the inland area. Lake Kutcharo (registered under the Ramsar Convention) is where swans come to live. Area: 401.64 km2 . Population: 4,168 (2010). 北海道北部，枝幸(えさし)郡の町。オホーツク海に面し，頓別川河口は天然の内港で，毛ガニ，サケ，マスなどの水揚げがある。ホタテの養殖も行われる。内陸部では酪農が盛ん。ハクチョウが飛来するクッチャロ湖（ラムサール条約登録）がある。401.64km2。4168人（2010）。
