A plateau-like mountain range in the Pilbara region in the northwest of Western Australia, in western Australia. It stretches for about 260 km from northwest to southeast between the Fortescue River and the Ashburton River, with the rivers carving out gorges. In the center, the range exceeds 1000 m above sea level, and includes Mount Miharee (1251 m), the highest peak in the state. It is made of Precambrian rocks and has a large iron ore mine. It was "discovered" by Gregory in 1861, and named after his patron, a high-ranking Admiralty official. [Taniuchi Tatsu] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
