...After his wife's death, he happily remarried and published a succession of novels and poetry collections. Representative novels include "Sandra Belloni" (1864), whose protagonist is an intelligent and passionate Italian diva; its sequel "Vittoria" (1867), set against the backdrop of the Italian independence movement; "The Adventures of Harry Richmond" (1871), which tells the story of the relationship between a con man and his son, set in the forests of Germany; "Comedy" (1877), which argues that comedy is a force that refines human society through a light and critical spirit, and his masterpiece "The Egoist" (1879), which is based on this work. Although his subjects are diverse, his forte is social comedy, which is developed in a sophisticated style that is both intellectual and lyrical, and is particularly characterized by the role of intelligent and proactive women.
