First played major roles in Shakespeare's works, including Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, and Richard III. Also starred in many plays by B. Johnson, T. Kidd, F. Beaumont, and J. Fletcher. Together with his brother C. Burbage, they moved their father's theatre to the south bank of the Thames and opened it as the Globe Theatre (1599), demonstrating their talent in theatre management.
