Czech journalist, writer, and politician. He stayed in Moscow for a year from 1843, but became disappointed with Tsarist Russia, became critical of Pan-Slavism, and advocated for the independence of the Czech people. During the revolutionary period of 1848-49 in Prague, he was editor of the Czech language newspaper Volkszeitung and represented Czech liberals as a member of the Austrian Imperial Diet. After the revolution was suppressed, he continued to vehemently criticize the government and Catholic clergy under the Bach regime, and was imprisoned in Brixen (now Bressanone) in South Tyrol from 1851 to 1855.

チェコ人ジャーナリスト，作家，政治家。1843年から1年間モスクワに滞在したが，ツァーリズムのロシアに失望し，パン･スラブ主義に批判的となり，チェコ民族の自立性を主張するにいたった。48‐49年の革命期のプラハで，チェコ語の《国民新聞》編集者，オーストリア帝国議会議員としてチェコ人自由主義者の代表となる。革命鎮圧後のバッハ体制のもとで政府とカトリック教権主義を激しく非難し続けたために，51‐55年に南チロルのブリクセン(現，ブレッサノーネ)に幽閉された。
