A mountain in the Manaslu mountain range in the Nepal Himalayas. It is 7,893m above sea level. In Nepali, it means "snowy mountain as sharp as a knife." The Japanese Alpine Club, which successfully summited Manaslu, made a trial climb in 1958 and an attack the following year in 1959, but was defeated. Following their success, a team from Keio University (led by Yamada Jiro) succeeded in reaching the summit for the first time in 1960. After that, an Italian team and several Japanese teams also attempted to reach the summit but failed, and in 1978 the Spring Snow and Rock Club made the second ascent of the main peak, and also reached the 7,541m western peak.
