A document included in the Apostolic Fathers. Papias was bishop of the church of Hierapolis in Phrygia, Asia Minor, in the early 2nd century. According to Irenaeus, he was a disciple of the Apostle John and a friend of Polycarp. Around 130-140, he wrote a five-volume work entitled "Commentary on the Word of the Lord." A few fragments of this work have been handed down by Eusebius. Among these, the articles on the Evangelist Mark, the Gospel of Matthew, and the two Johns are particularly important.
