Dance music performed in Cuba in the 19th century. Pronounced habanera in Spanish, it is named after the capital city of Havana. The English country dance was introduced to Spain via France in the late 17th century and became contradanza, which was then introduced to Cuba and called danza, and its Havana version became danza habanera in the early 19th century. The rhythm with a big jump on the first beat was introduced to Argentina and gave birth to tango. "La Paloma," composed in the habanera style by Spanish composer S. Iradier (1809-1865), who gained popularity with zarzuela and popular songs, was widely performed in Europe and the United States until the early 20th century, and "El Alegrito" was incorporated into Bizet's "Carmen." The third piece of Ravel's orchestral work "Rhapsodie espagnole" and Saint-Saëns' violin solo piece "Habañera" (1887) are also famous. → Related article Milonga Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
