A medical device used to gradually administer large amounts of liquid (called irrigation), for purposes such as enemas, high-pressure enemas, enema cleaning, and vaginal or bladder washing. Generally, the liquid is placed in a graduated glass or plastic container and gradually released through a thin tube connected to it. Most devices have a valve to adjust the rate of release. In the past, they were used for infusions and blood transfusions, but are now rarely used for these purposes. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
