…In the field of court architecture, there are works such as the Zwinger Palace (1711-28) built in Dresden by Matthias Daniel Pöppelmann (1662-1736) of Saxony, and the Belvedere Palace in Vienna by Hildebrandt. The design of the great staircase, which originated in Italy, has led to the creation of the most fantastical world in the Germanic cultural sphere. Although there are strong regional differences in Spanish Baroque, it is generally recognized that it moved toward luxurious decoration, reaching its peak with the Churriguera family, centered around José-Benito de Churriguera (1665-1725) of Castile. Their architectural style, Churrigueresco, was later carried to its utmost limits by Pedro de Ribera (c. 1683-1742). …
