A town in Hiki County in the mid-west of Saitama Prefecture. Occupying the southern end of the Hiki Hills, the town is involved in rice and field farming. There are also metal and electrical machinery companies. Large-scale residential development began around 1974, resulting in a rapid population increase. The town is home to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Earth Observation Center, the Japan Meteorological Agency's Meteorological Satellite Communications Station, and Tokyo Denki University.
