A surveyor is an engineer who performs surveying and is registered as a surveyor under the Survey Act. As an engineer, he or she engages in basic surveying or public surveying, and prepares or implements plans related to surveying. Assistant surveyors are similarly registered and engage in surveying according to plans prepared by a surveyor. The qualifications to become a surveyor are (1) a person who has completed subjects related to surveying at a university and has at least one year of work experience after graduation, (2) a person who has completed subjects related to surveying at a junior college or a former professional school and has at least three years of work experience after graduation, (3) a person who has graduated from a training facility designated by the Minister of Construction (at least one year) and has at least two years of work experience, or (4) a person who has passed the surveyor examination administered by the Director-General of the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan. The qualifications to become an assistant surveyor are a person who has graduated from any of the facilities listed above in (1), (2), or (3) or who has passed the assistant surveyor examination administered by the Director-General of the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan. 測量を行う技術者で,測量法によって測量士として登録された者。技術者として,基本測量または公共測量に従事し,測量に関する計画を作成し,または実施する。測量士補も同じように登録されたもので,測量士の作成した計画に従い測量に従事する。測量士となる資格は,(1) 大学で測量に関する科目を修め,卒業後1年以上の実務経験のある者,(2) 短大または旧制専門学校で,測量に関する科目を修め,卒業後3年以上の実務経験のある者,(3) 建設大臣の指定する養成施設 (1年以上) を卒業し,実務経験2年以上の者,(4) 国土地理院長が行う測量士試験に合格した者,のいずれかである。測量士補となる資格は前記の (1) ,(2) ,(3) のいずれかの施設を卒業または国土地理院長が行う測量士補試験に合格した者である。
