Located in Ohata Town in western Kochi Prefecture, this sandy beach is about 3km long and 100m wide. Behind the beach is a mixed forest made up mainly of black pine trees over 300 years old, known as Irino Matsubara. It is said to have been planted by Chosokabe Motochika during the Tensho era (1573-92), and was designated a national place of scenic beauty in 1928 and a prefectural natural park in 1956. The beach is home to Kotamagai (commonly known as Kosodegai), a type of shell with a beautiful pattern, and it bears a sad story about Prince Takayoshi.
