Japanese: 蜂須賀氏 - はちすかうじ
Hachisuka clan

A local warrior who ruled over Hachisuka Village, Kaito County, Owari Province (Ama City, Aichi Prefecture). Hachisuka Koroku Masakatsu rose to prominence when he assisted Oda Nobunaga in the Battle of Okehazama, and he also frequently assisted Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In 1581 (Tensho 9), he was granted the fief of Tatsuno in Banshu, becoming a feudal lord. His eldest son, Iemasa, was granted the fief of Awa in 1585, and Iemasa's eldest son, Yoshishige, was granted the fief of Awaji in 1615 (Genwa 1), making him a great feudal lord of the Tokushima Domain with a fief of over 250,000 koku. After that, the succession of rulers was Tadateru, Mitsutaka, Tsunamichi, Tsunanori, Munekazu, Muneteru, Muneshige, Yoshihiro, Shigeyoshi, Haruaki, Narimasa, and Narihiro, and in 1869, during the reign of Mochiaki, the Hachisuka clan's rule over the Atan and Tango provinces, which had continued for 270 years, was brought to an end.
