Eight volumes of flower arrangement

Japanese: 八帖花伝書 - はちじょうかでんしょ

This eight-volume Nohgaku handbook was compiled at the end of the Muromachi period. The editor is unknown. The contents cover a wide range of subjects, including the legend of the origin of Nohgaku, articles on the Okina-dachi (volume 1), as well as specific knowledge on rhythm and chanting, theories on training and music, and practical techniques (volumes 2-8). It is said to be a posthumous work by Zeami, but in reality it only contains the "Imitation Articles" from "Fushikaden," "Questions and Answers," and a part of "Kowadasukuden." The rest of the work appears to have been compiled from various documents from that time, including the handbook on drums by Miyamasu Yazaemon, a small drum player from the first half of the 16th century.

室町末期に編集された8巻仕立ての能楽伝書。編者不明。内容は能楽起源伝説，翁立ちの条々(巻一)をはじめ，調子や謡（うたい），あるいは稽古･囃子に関する諸論および実技についての具体的知識(巻二～八)など多方面にわたる。世阿弥の遺著に仮託されているが，実情は《風姿花伝（ふうしかでん）》の〈物まね条々〉，および〈問答条々〉と《音曲声出口伝（こわだしくでん）》の一部を収載しているにすぎず，他の大部分は16世紀前半の小鼓打ち宮増（みやます）弥左衛門の鼓伝書をはじめ，当時の伝書類をいろいろ取り集めて構成したものらしい。
