A decisive battle between Cao Cao and Yuan Shao in China at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. In 199 (4th year of Jian'an), Yuan Shao defeated Gongsun Zan and unified the Hebei and Shanxi areas. Cao Cao, who had supported Emperor Xian and had his base in Shandong and Henan, also expanded his power after Yuan Shu's death from illness, and the two of them divided northern China in two across the Yellow River. In 200, Yuan Shao led a large army across the river, and after fighting many battles with Cao Cao, they faced each other at Guandu (Zhongmu County, Henan Province) for several months, and Cao Cao, who was at a disadvantage, emerged victorious. This decisive battle sealed Cao Cao's conquest of northern China, and Yuan Shao died in anger. The Battle of Red Cliffs [Tsuzuki Akiko] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
