〘Noun〙① A type of water clock. A copper pot with a small hole in the bottom is filled with water, and a graduated arrow is placed in the water to measure the time by the drop in the water level. 〘名〙① 水時計の一つ。底に小さな穴をあけた銅製の壺に水を入れ、目盛りをつけた矢をその水中に立てて水面の低下することによって時刻をはかるもの。漏刻(ろうこく)。※田氏家集（892頃）下・七月七代牛女惜暁更「箭漏応_レ寛周歳会、銅壺莫_レ従一宵親」〔顧況‐楽府詩〕② 銅製の器物。かまどの側壁に塗りこんだり、火鉢に仕込んだりする湯わかし。転じて、金属製の入れ物をもいう。※俳諧・炭俵（1694）下「塀の外まで桐のひろがる〈桃隣〉銅壺よりなまぬる汲んでつかふ也〈野坡〉」
