The cape of Hatteras Island is the easternmost point of North Carolina, USA, and the eastern end of a chain of sandbars that jut out into the Atlantic Ocean in an arc. Pamlico Sound lies between the chain of sandbars and the mainland. This area is known as the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" because of the frequent fog and storms it faces, making it one of the most difficult places to navigate. There is a brick lighthouse at the tip of the cape. Hatteras Island, parts of Bodie Island to the north, and Ocracoke Island to the south were designated a National Seashore Recreation Area in 1937, and are bustling with families in the summer for fishing, camping, hiking, and swimming.

アメリカ合衆国ノース･カロライナ州最東端，大西洋に弧状に突き出た砂州列東端のハタラス島の岬。砂州列と大陸本土との間にパムリコ湾がある。この付近は霧や嵐が多く，航海上の難所の一つで，〈大西洋の墓場〉と呼ばれる。岬の先端には煉瓦造の灯台がある。ハタラス島とその北のボディ島の一部，および南のオクラコーク島は1937年に国立海浜レクリエーション地区に指定され，夏は釣り，キャンプ，ハイキング，海水浴を楽しむ家族連れでにぎわう。
