...The music of the dance is characterized by an irregular rhythm, which is made up of various combinations of two- and three-stringed instruments called aksak. The most common instruments are the upright flute tilincǎ, a stringed lute-like instrument cobzǎ, a small cimbalom (țambal), and bagpipes (cimpoi), but the most famous is the panpipe nai, which is made up of many pipes. These instruments are played exclusively by Roma (Gypsy) musicians called lǎutar.
