A theory put forward in the late 19th century, mainly by the German philosopher R. Avenarius. It takes a position that does not recognize the divisions between the subjective and the objective, consciousness and existence (hence idealism and materialism), and the internal and the external, which are fundamental problems in philosophy since ancient times. Avenarius argued that if the individual and subjective are removed from the content of experience, then a so-called pure experience that is universal to everyone can be obtained, and this overcomes philosophical dualism. It had a great influence on logical positivism.

19世紀末，主としてドイツの哲学者 R.アベナリウスによって唱えられた学説。古来からの哲学上の基本問題，すなわち主観と客観，意識と存在 (したがって観念論と唯物論) ，内的なるものと外的なるものなどの区分を認めない立場に立つ。アベナリウスは，経験内容から個的な主観的なるものを除去していけば，万人にとって普遍的ないわゆる純粋経験が得られ，これによって哲学上の二元論が克服されるとした。論理実証主義に大きな影響を与えた。
