Horse bell - flapping
Usually, it is an ornament attached to a horse's breast-tack (the "san-gai"), and a horse harness that emits a sound. It is made of bronze, and is cylindrical in shape, similar to a bronze bell, and has a tongue inside. In China, the prototype dates back to the Shang dynasty. In Japan, it has been known since the late Kofun period, but it usually has a curved lower edge, is about 15 cm high, and has a bead pattern or lattice pattern cast on only one side.
