Haseokukyo Soshi

Japanese: 長谷雄卿草紙 - はせおきょうそうし

This picture scroll depicts the story of Ki Haseo, a Chinese scholar from the early Heian period. It was produced in the first half of the 14th century. One volume, colored on paper. Owned by the Eisei Bunko. The story is about Haseo winning a game of sugoroku against an ogre and winning a beautiful woman, but he breaks his promise and marries her within 100 days, causing the beautiful woman to turn into water and wash away. It is a mysterious tale. The painting is richly colored and the depiction is detailed, but the brushwork is stiff and heavy. It shows the style of Yamato-e from the Northern and Southern Courts period.

平安時代初期の漢学者，紀長谷雄を主人公とする物語を描いた絵巻。 14世紀前半の作。紙本着色，1巻。永青文庫蔵。物語は，鬼とのすごろくの勝負に勝った長谷雄が絶世の美女を得るが，約束を破って 100日たたないうちに契ったため，美女は水となって流れ去ったという怪奇的なもの。絵は濃彩で描写は精緻であるが，筆づかいは硬く重たい。南北朝期のやまと絵の作風を示している。
