Split brain

Japanese: 分離脳 - ぶんりのう（英語表記）split brain

The human cerebrum consists of the left cerebral hemisphere (called the left brain) and the right cerebral hemisphere (called the right brain), and these two are connected by approximately 200 million nerve fibers. These nerve fibers form several nerve fiber bundles called the corpus callosum, anterior commissure, and hippocampal commissure. From the end of the 1940s, surgery to cut the corpus callosum began to be performed as a treatment for severe epilepsy, and in the early 1960s, surgery was performed to cut not only the corpus callosum but also the anterior commissure and hippocampal commissure in a single operation.
