Bazooka (English spelling)

Japanese: バズーカ(英語表記)bazzuka
Bazooka (English spelling)
An anti-tank rocket launcher developed and deployed by the United States during World War II. It had a 2.36-inch (60 mm) caliber aluminum barrel, and the end of the barrel (the muzzle side) was shaped like a trumpet, which gave it its name from its resemblance to the musical instrument (called a bazooka) used by the popular comedian B. Barnes at the time. The word bazooka later became synonymous with this type of rocket launcher. [Kadozono Mutsumi]
