A portable home of nomadic peoples, such as the Mongolians and Kyrgyz, who live on the steppes of Central and Northern Asia. Yurt is the Chinese word for yurt, and in Mongolia it is called ger. A cylindrical wall is made of willow or non-elm, and a conical ceiling that can be opened and closed like an umbrella is placed on top, and the whole is covered with felt. It is usually a circle with a height of 4 to 5 meters and a diameter of 5 to 6 meters. The yurts of Turkish nomads have a similar structure, but the ceiling is dome-shaped.

モンゴル人やキルギス人など，中央アジア〜北部アジアのステップに住む遊牧民族の移動式の家。パオは中国語で，モンゴルではゲルという。ドロヤナギやノニレを材料にした円筒状の壁体を作り，その上に傘(かさ)のように開閉できる円錐形の天井をのせ，全体をフェルトでおおう。普通は高さ４〜5m，直径５〜6mの円形。なお，トルコ系遊牧民のユルタも同様の構造であるが，天井部がドーム形をしている。
