Yoshito Ki

Japanese:
Yoshito Ki
Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. A government official in the mid-Heian period. Second son of Chunagon Haseo. In 936, when Fujiwara no Sumitomo rose up in revolt, based on Hiburi Island (Uwajima City), he was appointed as the Nankaido envoy (also Iyo no Kami, Saemon no Gon no Suke), i.e., military commander of the entire Shikoku region, and is known for his efforts in pursuing and suppressing the revolt. He had just been appointed Kawachi no Kami the previous year, but his abilities were likely recognized. According to the Fuso Ryakki, thanks to the merciful treatment of the lord, over 30 leaders and over 2,500 rebels surrendered, and they were given clothing, fields, and even seeds to work in agriculture. However, in 939, Sumitomo ignored the lord's protests and rebelled. He later became Tanba no Kami and returned to Kawachi no Kami. His poems are included in the Kokinshu.
