A drug that promotes follicle maturation and induces ovulation. Pregnant mare serum gonadotropin and menopausal women's urinary gonadotropin act as follicle-stimulating hormones, and are used in combination with chorionic gonadotropin, both of which act as luteinizing hormones. The former is a foreign protein, so it becomes ineffective if antibodies are produced, and the latter can cause multiple ovulations as a result of overstimulation, which can lead to multiple pregnancies. Other drugs include clomiphene and cyclophenyl, which act on the diencephalon and pituitary system to promote the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone.

卵胞成熟を促進し，排卵を誘発する薬剤。卵胞刺激ホルモン作用をもつものに妊馬血清性ゴナドトロピンと更年婦人尿性ゴナドトロピンがあり，ともに黄体形成ホルモン作用をもつ絨毛(じゅうもう)性ゴナドトロピンを併用する。前者は異種タンパクなので抗体ができれば効果がなくなり，後者は過剰刺激の結果，多排卵を起こし多胎妊娠の可能性がある。ほかに，間脳，脳下垂体系に働きかけ卵胞刺激ホルモン，黄体形成ホルモンの分泌を促進するクロミフェンやシクロフェニルがある。
