...A seashore fly, Fucomyia frigida, whose larvae feed on seaweed washed up on the shore. Fucomyia frigida is found throughout Japan, but is particularly common on the coasts of Hokkaido. Some species emerge from discarded oyster shells in Hiroshima and Okayama.
