1836‐1904
King of Cambodia. Reigned 1860-1904. Fearing the threat of Thailand and Vietnam to the east and west of Cambodia, the King concluded a protectorate treaty with France in August 1863 while his Thai advisors were absent, but after struggling to find a solution between France and Thailand, he secretly concluded a similar protectorate treaty with Thailand in December of the same year. When France learned of this, it prevented the King from traveling to Thailand, and in 1867 concluded a treaty with Thailand that abolished the Thai protectorate treaty with Cambodia and recognized France's protectorate over Cambodia.

カンボジア国王。在位1860‐1904年。カンボジアを東西からはさむタイ，ベトナム両国に対する恐怖から，1863年8月王はタイ人顧問の不在中にフランスと保護条約を締結したが，その後フランスとタイとの板ばさみで苦慮の末，同年12月同様の保護条約をタイと内密に結んだ。これを知ったフランスは王のタイへの渡航を阻止し，67年にタイの対カンボジア保護条約破棄とフランスのカンボジア保護権承認を内容とする条約をタイと結んだ。
