Noroeste Railway - Noroeste Railway (English name) Estrada de Ferro Noroeste do Brasil

A railway line (total length 1,762 km, construction started in 1904 and completed in 1953) that runs west from the city of Bauru in the central-western part of the state of São Paulo, Brazil, across the central-southern part of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. It is currently Section 10 of the Brazilian National Railway (RFFSA). It is a highly political national railway, deeply involved in the defense and development of the hinterland, the strong interest in oil in the eastern lower parts of Bolivia, and the proposal for a transcontinental railway linking the Atlantic coast (Santos) and the Pacific coast (Arica, Chile). The railway linking Corumba on the border with Santa Cruz in Bolivia was also built by Brazil with a similar vision.
