Ping-ju (English: Ping-ju)

Japanese: 評劇 - ひょうげき（英語表記）Ping-ju

Chinese regional drama. Also called "Pianxi", "Fangfangxi" or "Luozi". In the early 20th century, it developed in Luanxian and Jidong in Hebei Province, based on the folk chanting of Lianhualuo and Fangfang, incorporating Bangziqian. It is similar to Bangziqian, but the lyrics and singing style are more common and simple, and it is sung to the accompaniment of a unique Chinese fiddle called Banhu. It is loved by the masses for its realistic and simple performances that are free from conventions, and make people laugh and cry, with the main themes of legends, folk tales and peasant life. Usually, the female roles are also played by actresses. It was popular in Hebei, Shanghai, Sichuan, Guizhou and throughout the northeast and north China regions, and since it is not bound by conventions like Peking Opera, many modern works such as "Women's Representative" are performed today, and it has developed from a regional drama to a national theater. There is a specialized theater company in Beijing called the China Criticism Theater.

中国の地方劇。「評戯」「ほうほう戯 (ほうほうぎ) 」「落子 (らくし) 」ともいう。 20世紀の初め河北省の灤県，冀東を中心に民間説唱の蓮花落やほうほうを土台に梆子腔 (ほうしこう) を取入れて発展した。梆子腔に似ているが，歌詞や唱法はより通俗平易で，板胡という独特の胡弓を伴奏に歌う。伝説や民譚，農民生活などを主要題材に泣き笑う，型に縛られない現実的で素朴な演技が大衆に親しまれている。普通，旦 (女方) も女優が演じた。河北，上海，四川，貴州をはじめ東北と華北一帯に流行し，京劇のように約束事に縛られないので今日では『婦女代表』のような現代物が多く上演され，一地方劇から全国的な演劇に発展している。北京に専門劇団として中国評劇院がある。
