A Chinese literati painter from the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Born in Wuhu (Anhui Province), his pen name was Sekiboku, and his pen names were Wumon Daoren and Zhongshan Lao. He became a deputy tributary during the Chongzhen period of the Ming dynasty, but did not serve the Qing dynasty. He was well versed in poetry, calligraphy, painting, and music, but was particularly skilled in landscape painting, modeled on Huang Gongwang and Ni Zan. He created a unique style of painting using beautiful, light colors, and is considered the founder of the Guju school. His book Taiping Landscape Paintings, published in 1648, was introduced to Japan and had a great influence on early Southern painters such as Chi Taiga and Gion Nankai. His poems are included in the Heian Poems of the Two Elders Xiao Tang.

中国,明末,清初の文人画家。蕪湖 (安徽省) の人。字は尺木 (せきぼく) ,号は無悶道人,鍾山老人。明の崇禎年間に副貢生となったが,清朝には仕えなかった。詩文,書画,音楽に通じたが,ことに黄公望,倪 瓚 (げいさん) にならった山水画にすぐれ,淡彩の美しい個性的画風を創始,姑熟派の祖に数えられる。順治5 (1648) 年刊行の著書『太平山水図冊』は日本に伝来し,初期の南画家の池大雅,祇園南海などに多大の影響を与えた。詩は『蕭湯二老遺詩合編』に収められる。
