A curse is an evil act that uses mystical means to bring about disaster such as illness or death on a specific individual or social group. It is also called a curse, and is similar to black magic and sorcery. Curses have been practiced in many parts of the world throughout history and the world, and they are a good indication of the true nature of human beings.

In Japan, the tradition of curses has been secretly preserved from ancient times to the present day. Descriptions of curses can already be found in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki myths. One example is the story of Iwanagahime, who resented her younger sister Konohanasakuyahime, cursing her to give her a life as fleeting as a flower.

　日本でも古代から現代まで絶えることなく，のろいの伝統はひそかに守り続けられてきた。呪詛の記述はすでに記紀神話にみえ，磐長姫（いわながひめ）が妹の木花開耶姫（このはなのさくやびめ）を恨んでその腹の中の子どもに花のように移ろいやすい命を与えるように，とのろったという話はその一例である。
