Ujiin Temple

Japanese: 宇治院 - うじいん
Ujiin Temple

...The principal image is Amida Nyorai. Fujiwara no Yorimichi inherited Uji-in, a villa from his father Michinaga, and converted it into a temple in 1052 (Eisho 7), the first year of the Latter Days of the Law. The following year, he built the Amida Hall (Phoenix Hall) as the central temple, and enshrined a seated Amida statue of 180 cm tall made by Jocho. From then until the end of the Heian period, the temple was revered by the clan as a regent's temple, and the construction of various halls and pagodas by Michizane, Tadazane, and others continued, bringing it to its heyday.
