This is the former town area in the north of Isumi City, in the southeastern part of Chiba Prefecture. It was established in 1961 by the merger of Taito Town and Choja Town. In 2005, it was merged with Isumi Town and Ohara Town to form Isumi City. Located in the lower reaches of the Isumi River, in addition to rice cultivation, vegetable cultivation, dairy farming, and livestock farming are also thriving. Choja, the central district, is the commercial center. The eastern coast belongs to Minami Boso Quasi-National Park, and the sandy beach at the southern end of Cape Taito has a coastal plant community that is designated as a national natural monument. 千葉県南東部,いすみ市北部の旧町域。 1961年太東町,長者町の2町が合体して成立。 2005年夷隅町,大原町と合体して,いすみ市となる。夷隅川下流域に位置し,米作のほか野菜の栽培や酪農,畜産も盛ん。中心地区の長者は商業中心地。東部海岸は南房総国定公園に属し,太東崎南端の砂浜には国の天然記念物に指定されている海浜植物群落がある。
