A continuous, irregular news publication started by the government of the Italian city-state of Venice in 1536 to inform citizens of the war situation in the Dalmatian region. Details are unknown, but it is said that in addition to selling the printed matter, it was also read out at key locations throughout the city, and since the admission fee to be an audience member or the cost of the printed matter itself was one gazette, the currency of the time, this type of publication came to be called "gazzetta." This is why the custom of naming newspapers "gazette" emerged in later years.

イタリアの都市国家ベネチアの政庁が，1536年ダルマツィア地方の戦況を市民に知らせるために始めた継続的な不定期ニュース出版物。詳細は不明であるが，印刷物として販売するほか，市中の要所で読みあげたともいわれ，その聴衆となるための入場料あるいは印刷物自身の代価が，当時の貨幣のガゼッタgazzetta1個であったので，この種の印刷物は〈ガゼッタ〉と呼ばれることになったという。後年，新聞にガゼットという名をつける習慣が発生したのはそのためである。
