...Her husband, Jean-Marie Roland de la Platière (1734-93), was born in Lorraine in the south of France and became an inspector of the silk industry in Lyon. In 1780, he married Manon Philipon Roland de la Platière (1754-93), a Parisian sculptor born into a bourgeois family. She was fascinated by the Enlightenment from her early childhood and was praised for her intelligence. After the outbreak of the French Revolution, her husband became involved in politics in Lyon, but in 1791, he and his wife moved to Paris and formed friendships with Girondist politicians. He served as Minister of the Interior twice, from March to June 1792 and from August to January 1793. ...
