A volcano on the eastern shore of Lake Mashu in southeastern Hokkaido. Also known as Mt. Mashu. Elevation 857m. Part of Teshikaga Town. The name of the mountain means "Demon Mountain" in Ainu. It is a cone-shaped stratovolcano with a crater 1500m in diameter and steep slopes, and is composed of andesite and pyroclastic materials. It is a scenic spot in Akan National Park. The Mashu Volcano, including Kamuinupuri, is designated as an active volcano by the Japan Meteorological Agency. An eruption about 7000 years ago formed the caldera that is today's Lake Mashu, and Kamuinupuri was formed about 2000 years ago.

北海道南東部，摩周湖東岸にある火山。別称摩周岳。標高 857m。弟子屈町に属する。山岳名はアイヌ語で「魔神の山」を意味する。直径 1500mの火口と，急斜面をもつ円錐（コニーデ）形の成層火山で，安山岩と火山砕屑物からなる。阿寒国立公園に属する景勝地。カムイヌプリを含む摩周火山は気象庁が定義する活火山に指定されており，約 7000年前の噴火で今日の摩周湖となるカルデラが形成され，約 2000年前までにカムイヌプリが生成された。
