A history book about the Ashikaga Shogunate compiled by the Edo Shogunate. Edited by the Confucian scholar Narushima Ryojo (Chikuzan), following the example of the Kamakura Shogunate's Azuma Kagami. Published in 1853 (Kaei 6). The original was handed down to the Geography Division of the former Ministry of Home Affairs, but was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake. Influenced by the Tokugawa Jikki, the book presents the achievements of each Shogun in chronological order, with an editorial policy that clearly indicates their sources. Set against the backdrop of the development of textual research in the Edo period, the book features historical records and documents, and includes many documents that are now lost, making it a valuable collection of historical materials. Many of the documents and records held by the National Archives of Japan were used as editing materials. Included in the Kokushi Taikei.
