Located in Krakow, this is Poland's oldest university, second only to Charles University in Prague in Central Europe. Commonly known as the University of Krakow. Founded in 1364 by Casimir III (the Great) of the Piast dynasty, it was originally called Akademia Krakowska. It grew significantly under the Jagiellonian dynasty, so it was given its current name. In 1400, it was reorganized on the model of the University of Paris, and began full-scale operations. Already in the first half of the 15th century, it had an excellent faculty in the field of law, and attracted international attention for its open-minded attitude toward new academic and philosophical trends.
