Lake Nozori - Nozoriko

This lake is located on the northwestern edge of Gunma Prefecture, in Nakanojo-machi, Agatsuma-gun, on the border with Nagano Prefecture. The lake surface is 1,514 meters above sea level, 25 meters deep, and has a circumference of 12 kilometers. It was created in 1956 (Showa 31) by Tokyo Electric Power Company, which built a dam for power generation on two small ponds, including Motozoriike Pond, and the surrounding marshland. It is a remote area in the Mikuni Mountains, and the lake water belongs to the Shinano River system. In Gunma Prefecture, this lake and Oze are the only ones that do not belong to the Tone River system and enter the Sea of ​​Japan. The lake water is used by power plants in the Nakatsugawa River system. The lake shore is beautiful with alpine plants and moss, and there is a campsite and a fishing spot for rainbow trout and char. National Route 405 runs along the east side, and it is about an hour by JR bus from Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi Station on the JR Agatsuma Line. Along the way there is Hanashiki Onsen.

群馬県の北西端、吾妻(あがつま)郡中之条町(なかのじょうまち)の長野県境に位置する湖。湖面の標高1514メートル、水深25メートル、周囲12キロメートル。もと野反池といった二つの小池と周辺の湿原地に、1956年（昭和31）東京電力が発電用にダムをつくりできた人造湖。三国山脈(みくにさんみゃく)中の幽邃境(ゆうすいきょう)で、湖水は信濃(しなの)川系に属し、群馬県ではここと尾瀬だけが利根(とね)川水系ではなく日本海に入る。湖水は中津川(なかつがわ)系発電所が利用する。湖岸は高山植物やコケが美しく、キャンプ場、ニジマスやイワナの釣り場もある。東側を国道405号が通り、JR吾妻線長野原草津口駅からJRバス約1時間。途中に花敷温泉(はなしきおんせん)がある。
