Forty-two Chapters of the Sutra

Japanese: 四十二章経 - しじゅうにしょうきょう
Forty-two Chapters of the Sutra
This sutra is said to have been the first Buddhist scripture to be introduced to China. It is said to have been translated by the Indian monks Kasyapa Model and Zhufolan, who first introduced Buddhism to China during the Later Han Dynasty, at the White Horse Temple in Luoyang by imperial order, but it is also thought to have actually been written in China. It provides instruction on the path of learning and daily life after leaving the monkhood. It consists of one volume and 42 chapters. *The Beginnings of Dutch Studies (1921) <Kikuchi Kan>, 8 "The 42-chapter Sanskrit translation of the sutra has finally reached the level of all the sutras today" [A Brief History of Monks - Vol. 1]
