A place name in Fuwa-gun, Mino Province, currently a large district in Sekigahara-cho, Gifu Prefecture. In the Middle Ages, it was called Imasu-go (Imasu-go), and in early modern times, Imasu-mura, where Imasu-juku on the Nakasen road was located. Imasu-go was originally a provincial government office, and shortly after 1426, it became the property of Hokyo-ji Temple (present-day Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto City). The Nagae (Nagae) clan held sway in the area, and it is said that Imasu Castle was located there. In 1442, the Nagae clan donated fields in Imasu-go to Myo-oji Temple, which was built within the village. In 1487, the shogunate rejected the seizure of land by the shugo Toki Shigeyori over Imasu and other areas, and decided to allow a magistrate to enter the area. During the Edo period, it was a shogunate territory, and in 1770 it became the fief of the Ogaki domain. Imasu-juku is the 60th of the 67 post stations on the Nakasendo road, counting from Edo. Imasu Pass, which lies between Sekigahara-juku to the east, was a difficult place to pass, and a checkpoint was set up there during the Tenbun era (1532-1555). In 1702, the town was 17 cho (10 sects) long and 17 ken (10 sects) wide, with 363 houses, of which 184 were townhouses. There were 250 goshuin laborers, 5,641 hired laborers, and 850 snow-trotting laborers on the side roads of the northern provinces. In 1843, there were 1,784 people in the inn, with 464 households, 1 main inn, 2 side inns, 7 medium-sized and 6 small-sized inns. In the early Edo period, there was a dispute with Sekigahara-juku over the transfer of baggage. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
