Imadate [town] - Imadate
A former town in Imadate County, central Fukui Prefecture. Its center is Awatabe, a lowland town bordering Takefu City (now Echizen City). The textile and paper industries are thriving. It is home to Hanagatami Park, a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. Okamoto has long been known for producing Echizen washi paper, such as hosho paper and torinoko paper, and is now also known for its sliding screen paper and Japanese drawing paper. In October 2005, it merged with Takefu City to become Echizen City. 45.43 km2 . Population: 14,007 (2003).
