《Memorial Days》

...This ambitious work attempts to put into words the reality of the pressure that the political situation dividing East and West places on individual citizens. His works include The Third Life of Achim (1961), which is based on the reality of East Germany, and Memorial Days (1970-, unfinished), a masterpiece set in New York that overlaps modern American politics with the history of Germany in the 1930s and explores the relationship between modern politics and the way of life of an individual citizen. He won the Büchner Prize in 1971.
