Farmers' profits

Japanese:
Farmers' profits

A book on agriculture. Okura Nagatsune's debut work. It consists of three volumes, Tenchijin (Heaven, Earth, and Man). It was published in 1802 (Kyowa 2). The Ten volume encourages rulers to take advantage of side jobs, the Chi volume cultivates hazel trees, and the Jin volume explains wax production. This book was modeled after Takahashi Zenzo's "Kyomin no Tama" (The Poor People's Night-Light Pearl), published 50 years earlier. Two more volumes of the latter part were published in 1810 (Bunka 7), and two sequels in 1818 (Bunsei 1). The latter volume details the author's own research on training hazel trees as seedlings and grafting. The grafting technique is said to have been influenced by Dutch studies. In the Bunka 7 edition, he wrote down the overall plan for all the books he published afterwards.
