〘 noun 〙 In the Edo period, when a trading ship was wrecked and arrived at the nearest port, the officials of that port would investigate the situation before and after the shipwreck, the abandoned cargo, the remaining cargo, the state of the ship, and the various equipment, and then issue a certificate of shipwreck.
