Born: April 18, 1901 in Nagybanya [Died] March 3, 1975. Budapest Hungarian writer and critic. He started out as a dentist and school doctor, but was recognized for his contributions to the magazine Seijo from a young age. In 1932, he founded the magazine Tanú (Witness), and became the theoretical leader of the "popular" writers. He is widely known internationally as an elder of the Hungarian literary world after World War II. He wrote many psychological novels about life in provincial towns, and his main works include the novels Gyász (Mourning) (1936), Bün (Sin) (36), Iszony (Fear) (47), and Égetö Eszter (56), as well as many historical and social dramas.
