〘Noun〙 (dock) A type of dock. A rectangular trench dug into land large enough for a ship to enter and reinforced with concrete, with a watergate on the side facing the water, allowing seawater to be let in and out with a pump. This is the dock that is normally referred to, as opposed to a floating dock. Dry dock. 〘名〙 (ドックはdock) ドックの形式の一つ。陸地を船がはいり得るだけの大きさに掘り、コンクリートなどで固めた長方形の掘割で、水に向かう面に水門を設け、ポンプなどで、海水を入れたり出したりできるようにしたもの。普通にいうドックはこれで、浮きドックに対していう。乾船渠(かんせんきょ)。〔現代語大辞典(1932)〕
