Arakan [mountain range] - Arakan

Japanese: アラカン[山脈] - アラカン

A folded mountain range that runs north-south from northeastern India to western Myanmar. It has been eroded and is mainly composed of Paleozoic sandstone and limestone. It stretches from the state of Nagaland in northeastern India to Cape Mawtyn in southwestern Myanmar. It is made up of a series of parallel mountain ranges including the Naga, Chin, and Mizo hills. The highest peak is Mount Salameti (3,826m). The inhabitants are mostly Naga people in the north and Chin people in the central and southern parts of the country.

インド北東部からミャンマー西部を南北に走る褶曲(しゅうきょく)山脈。浸食が進み，古生代の砂岩，石灰岩が主。インド北東部ナガランド州からミャンマー南西部モーティン岬に達する。ナガ，チン，ミゾ等の諸丘陵を含み，並行する山脈群からなる。最高峰はサラメティ山（3826m）。住民は北部にナガ人，中部・南部にチン人が多い。
